(Ilex aquifolium)
English holly is an evergreen shrub or small tree introduced from Europe that has become invasive in parts of the United States, especially the Pacific Northwest. It spreads primarily through bird-dispersed berries and establishes in forest understories, where it tolerates shade and persists year-round. Dense infestations can suppress native plant growth and interfere with forest regeneration. Its evergreen nature and long lifespan make it difficult to control once established.
