Chinese Elm

(Lacebark Elm / Ulmus parvifolia)

Chinese elm is a fast-growing tree introduced to the United States as an ornamental and for its resistance to Dutch elm disease. It has since escaped cultivation in many regions, particularly in the Southeast and Midwest. The tree produces abundant seeds and readily establishes in disturbed soils, forest edges, and urban areas. Once established, it can form dense stands that displace native tree species and alter natural forest regeneration.
